Is
it safe to travel in Central and South America considering
the political situation there?
We can appreciate your concern over traveling in developing
countries and it is always good to be informed. As
we have partnerships with respected local operators
in these areas, we are always very up to date on local
issues that may affect the safety or enjoyment of
our passengers. We usually know about things that
happen in a country or area before the media, and
we also find that the some sources of information
tends to exaggerate incidents to make them sound more
"newsworthy". We continuously monitor all
areas and will cease to operate tours in any area
that we feel may be unsafe at any time. We have thousands
of passengers travel with us every year and we believe
that these trips are the not only the safest, but
the most enjoyable way to see many destinations. Please
feel free to contact a LatinAmerica4Less.com sales
representative with any questions about the operation
of tours in your particular area of interest.

General
comments about properties in Central and South America
Please consider that properties in some areas of Central
and South America may not meet the standards you are
accustomed to in the USA. The places you will visit,
do not enjoy our same standards of living. Although
there are hotels throughout the region that match
the luxury and facilities of US counterparts, do not
expect to find a Las Vegas or Cancun type of resort
in places like the Monteverde Cloud Forest of Costa
Rica, the Belize Cayes or Peru’s Sacred Valley.
You will find very fine, unique and comfortable properties,
just don’t expect the lavishness of some mass
tourist destinations. In many cases, properties are
right next to beautiful tropical surroundings teeming
with life- do not be surprised to meet the occasional
ant or spider in your room or shower.

How
requests are handled
Specific details on payment terms and deadlines are
in our ‘terms and conditions’. Because
many of the properties in regions of interest in Latin
America are relatively small, space cannot be guaranteed.
Most of the time we have to request and then confirm
the rooms that you requested. We try our best to confirm
exactly what you wanted. If we cannot, we will offer
alternative properties that you will have to approve.
We try to get you an answer on your request as soon
as possible. In some countries we give you an answer
within 48 hours, others may take longer- we strive
for the confirmation process to take no longer than
72 hours. Sometimes this is not possible due to circumstances
in a specific property’s reservation procedures.
In destinations such as the Mexico Beaches, we can
offer immediate confirmation.

Travel
documents and vaccinations
We recommend you consult our to the State Department
and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), which will inform you on specific entry requirements
to your country of destination. Please ensure that
you understand fully those requirements. Our agents
are not responsible for information regarding visa
and passport requirements. It is the responsibility
of the passenger.

Airport
and departure fees
Most countries charge a departure fee in cash at the
airport and some charge a cash entry fee. Our site
tries to keep this information updated. Please plan
on having extra cash to cover your departure fee at
the airport on the day you are returning home. Since
these are cash payments, our packages do not cover
these entry and departure fees.

When
is the best time to visit the wine regions of South
America?
For wine lovers, there is no better time to visit
Chile than from mid-February to end of April, when
its harvest time in South America's premier wine growing
nation. During those months, Chile enjoys a balmy
autumn and the opportunity to taste fine wines, and
see the latest vintages "hot off the press."
This connoisseur's paradise is not just in and around
Santiago, but in nearby Mendoza across the border
in Argentina, where the newly opened Park Hyatt offers
a great base to explore the heart of the Argentinean
wine region.

What
is the weather like in Belize?
Belize basically has 2 seasons - wet and dry. The
wet season runs from June - February, with the heaviest
rains coming between June and October. The dry season,
where we get very little rain, is March - May. The
mean daily temperature is around 85 degrees with nights
at about 70 along the coast and a little cooler inland.

What
is the best time to travel in Chile?
In Chile you can travel year around. Santiago &
the Central Valley and the beach resorts have a very
nice Mediterranean climate. Easter Island has a year
around average temperature of 21°C and in the
Atacama Desert you always have warm days and cold
nights. Remember that Chile is in the Southern Hemisphere,
which means that our summer lasts from October to
April, which is definitely the best travel time to
Patagonia. Also September (spring) and May (autum)
can be fantastic months to travel in Patagonia and
the Lake District, but one has to accept that the
weather could be rainy or windy. But this also can
happen in summer - we say in Patagonia you have the
four seasons in one day... We don’t recommend
traveling in Southern Patagonia (Torres del Paine
National Park) between June to August.

When
is best time of year to visit the Galapagos Islands?
The Galapagos Islands are a year-round destination.
The warmer months, December-April, have an average
temperature of 86 degrees. During this time, humidity
and rain are common, but so is a lush, green landscape.
May-November are the cooler months with an average
temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit, and usually
a thick mist present.

When
is best time of year to visit Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is a year-round destination. Temperature
averages range between the mid 70's and low 90's (Farenheit).
The rainy season is mid-May through mid-December,
but rain is possible at any time of year. Short, daily
downpours are characteristic of the rainforest.

How
cold is it in Antarctica? How windy?
On the Antarctic Peninsula, daily highs and lows range
from 25 to 45 degrees Farenheit from November through
March. On the more northerly islands, temperatures
may climb as high as the mid-50's. The continent's
ice cover and gravitational forces work together to
produce katabatic winds which may surge suddenly (sometimes
carrying snow to produce a blizzard effect) and then
stop just as suddenly. Wind chill is an important
comfort factor for visitors.

do you need a copy of our passport before you confirm
air reservations?

on this subject effective October 1998 and airlines
